Penélope Cruz Sánchez (born April 28, 1974), better known as Penélope Cruz, is a Spanish actress who was signed by an agent at age 15. She made her acting debut at 16 on television, and her feature film debut the following year in Jamón, jamón (1992), to critical acclaim. Her subsequent roles in the 1990s and 2000s included Open Your Eyes (1997), The Hi-Lo Country (1999), The Girl of Your Dreams (2000) and Woman on Top (2000). Cruz achieved recognition for her lead roles in Vanilla Sky and Blow. Both films were released in 2001 and were commercially successful worldwide.

Black Swan is Darren Aronofsky’sfilm dedicated to dance. The film follows the story of Nina (Portman), a ballerina in a New York City balletcompany whose life, like all those in her profession, is completely consumedwith dance. She lives with her retired ballerina mother Erica (Barbara Hershey)who zealously supports her daughter’s professional ambition. When artisticdirector Thomas Leroy (Vincent Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina BethMacIntyre (Winona Ryder) for the opening production of their new season, Swan Lake,Nina is his first choice. But Nina has competition: a new dancer, Lily (Kunis),who impresses Leroy as well. Swan Lake requires a dancerwho can play both the White Swan with innocence and grace, and the Black Swan, who represents guile and sensuality. Nina fits the White Swan roleperfectly but Lily is the personification of the Black Swan. As the two youngdancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get morein touch with her dark side with a recklessness that threatens to destroy her.

Natalie's performance ismoving but hard too: 6 months of preparation, hours and hours of ballet and 10 kg lost for theinterpretation of Nina. So Natalie Portman wins the Oscar, the most importantaward for the actors, and she can beat competition like Annette Bening,Nicole Kidman, Michelle Williams e Jennifer Lawrence.
